Solar Plexus Chakra

The third chakra is the solar plexus chakra. The Sanskrit name for this chakra is Manipura, meaning jewel of the navel. The associated element is fire. The associated color is yellow. The location of this chakra is between the navel and the base of the sternum. Chakra three relates to personal power, will and vitality. This is where we take action to create change. There is laughter, pleasure and harmony with one's surroundings when this chakra is in balance. Our power is so much greater when there is harmony with our polarities; male/female sides, light/dark as well as strength and vulnerability sides. This harmony is the power of the solar plexus chakra. The physical task of this chakra is to appropriately metabolize food into energy. Problems of digestion and metabolism signify too little energy which is a deficiency. Diabetes or stomach ulcers are an excessive reaction. Obesity is a 3rd chakra deficiency. The body is unable to appropriately metabolize food into energy. Addictions to substances that give the illusion of energy such as caffeine, sugar or amphetamines indicates a deficiency of one's feelings of vitality. 3rd chakra blockage shows itself as too much or too little energy. Rest and attention to diet are helpful for restoring deficient, physical energy. When there's an excess in the chakra. one may crave substances that sedate such as alcohol or tranquilizers.
