Brow (3rd Eye) Chakra

The 6th chakra is the brow chakra, also known as the 3rd eye chakra. The Sanskrit name is Ajna, meaning "to know". The element associated with this chakra is light and the associated color is indigo. The location of the brow chakra is between the eyes. "This is the center of the visual, psychic and intuitive perception - the place where we store our memories, perceive our dreams and imagine our future." The brow chakra is connected with psychic abilities, specifically clairvoyance. Clairvoyance, meaning clear seeing, is the ability to foresee events in the future. Excesses and deficiencies are harder to discover or understand in this chakra as well as the 7th.

Generally, excess in this chakra would show itself as nightmares, hallucinations or difficulty concentrating. A deficiency would show itself as insensitivity and the inability to "visualize" what is not right in front of you. Another common issue when you aren't balanced in this chakra is the inability to remember your dreams in waking consciousness. Additional issues caused by an imbalance include anxiety, depression, sciatica and insomnia.

Meditation is an important part of opening and balancing the brow chakra. Other ways to restore include reiki, sound therapy or acupuncture.
